June 9 - August 1, 2010
The 2010 Shakespeare in the Park summer season will present two Shakespeare plays in repertory giving audiences eight straight weeks of free Shakespeare. Under directors Daniel Sullivan and Michael Greif, the same company of actors will perform in both THE WINTER’S TALE and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE on rotating nights. THE MERCHANT OF VENICE will be directed by Daniel Sullivan and THE WINTER’S TALE will be directed by Michael Greif.

Previews for Shakespeare in the Park 2010 will begin on Wednesday, June 9 and run through Sunday, August 1.

Shakespeare in the Park 2010 is not The Public Theater’s first foray into rotating repertory. Henry IV, Parts One and Two were performed in rep in the Newman Theater in 1991, and 20 years earlier, the Henry VI plays and Richard III were condensed into The War of the Roses which was presented in rep and then performed in one all-night marathon in Central Park.

“This is a major step for The Public,” said Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. “Continuity of work is the key to great theater of all kinds; this is especially true for Shakespeare. The particular delights of repertory for an audience are meaningful; the depth of artistic work it allows for actors is inimitable.”

Bank of America will return as the 2010 season sponsor, supporting The Public’s mission to keep Shakespeare in the Park free.

Slavic Soul Party

Fiery brass, throbbing grooves, accordion wizardry, and virtuoso jazz chops make Slavic Soul Party the city's official brass band for Balkan soul and gypsy funk. The group pumps a Balkan brass sound through the filter of life in New York's outer boroughs, making new music from the unplanned results of immigration, proximity, and globalization.

Special thanks to Council Member Leroy G. Comrie for making this concert possible.

Free Wings Friday @ Croxley Ales

Croxley Ales

Don’t even think about ordering a Bud Light here. Both the menu and website state, “Croxley’s does NOT carry Bud, Coors, or Miller!” Okay…we get it. At a place like Croxley Ales, though, it makes sense because amongst so many quality beers, it’d be like going to the Four Seasons and trying to get a McFlurry. With a unique beer list from all over the world, including 30 ales and lagers on draught and 75 bottles, there’s certainly a lot
to choose from. Not to mention that regular specials make these imports and micro-brews pretty damn reasonable. Mondays and Wednesdays Croxley serves 10-cent wings and even more amazingly, Fridays from 5pm-7pm wings at the bar are free! This will prompt yet another new experience—the intense ache your body will feel when you eat your weight in Buffalo wings.

The term Sample Sale originally meant a sale of designer's samples. Samples are what designers use to show their collection to buyers and owners of retail stores. At the end of a season, the designer no longer has a need for these samples. So, once or twice a year they sell the samples to the public, where they usually would be sold at wholesale prices. Usually, the selection would be limited in pieces and sizes.

Today, many of these designers have taken this one giant step forward... Stock Sales. After a manufacturer has shipped their merchandise to their stores, there is usually inventory leftover.  This leftover merchandise is often supplied to us, to be featured in one of our stock sales.  Our Stock Sales are open to the public, where you can find the latest fashions, from the top designers at savings from 50% to 80% below retail prices.
